April Currently

I am joining Farley @ Oh Boy 4th Grade for her monthly Currently.
Before I get to the April Currently, I want to share a few pictures from my past week and a half.
My baby turned 12.  We went to the Harlem Globetrotters Game and he got to meet Curly O'Neil. Curley graduated in Greensboro (just up the road) and is # 4 on the Top 25 Greatest Harlem Globetrotters.  If you haven't been to a Globetrotter Game, you should.  It is fun for the whole family.
My niece turned 1.  She was Snow White for her birthday.
Check out the Chuck Taylor shoes!
My sister in law got married in a small beautiful ceremony.
There really should be an age limit for Easter Egg Hunting!
This is my 17 year old and 19 year old who were running for the same egg!

Now, to my currently.
Listening:  It's 12:00 my time which means the News is on.
Loving:  I did not want a new car!  My car was almost paid off!  But, the turbo was going out on my daughter's car AND the axle, also!  We had to get rid of her car and FAST!  I was not about to buy another used car with NO warranty.  So, I gave Kait by car and I got a Kia Soul.  If I was going to have to get a new car, might as well be a fun one.

So, I named my new Soul, Stuart, after Stuart Little!
Thinking:  My daughter has interviews over the next 2 weeks with 2 companies for her Summer Internship.  She is so nervous!  She had 1 interview with Liberty Mutal and they have called her back for a second interview in front of panels.  This morning, another company contacted her for an interview.
Wanting:  I have had the opportunity to scrapbook a few times over the past 2 weeks.  I spent about 2 hours yesterday just organizing my recent order from Snapfish - $100 worth of photos. Now, I can add the photos to these Christmas pages.
Needing:  I have an eye appointment today.  The first in over 5 years.  I thought it was time to go  before I had a car accident at night.  AND during last week's observation, I was reading and messed up on a word or two because I couldn't see them very well!
Advice:  I always try to look for the positive!  There is too much doom and gloom in the world to focus on.  Look for the bright side and you will be a much happier person!
Happy Spring, Ya'll!

Jogging for Jonah

I am looking for fellow bloggers to help me with a special fundraiser in honor of a little boy at my church who suffers from EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa). It is a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds.

I am participating in a 5k walk called Jogging for Jonah and I have created a fundraising page to raise funds in his honor.  Money raised will go to fund research to find a cure for EB.
At this moment there is NO cure!

To see Jonah's story, click on the picture below.
How can you help?
Donate 1 item from your TPT store.
I will combine all donated items into a large packet available at an amazing low price.
When someone makes a donation to Jogging for Jonah, they will receive all the donated items.
(Please leave your email so I can contact you.)

Get Acquainted Linky

I am linking up with Mrs. Reed over at Flying into First Grade for a Let's Get Acquainted Linky Party.  Come join the fun!

My initials are TFW.

Tomato Casserole
When I was growing up, my mom would make something called Tomato Casserole.  I could gag just thinking about it.  Basically, it was homegrown tomatoes and juices cooked with bread on top.  I couldn't stomach it.  I remember holding my nose and chasing the stuff with milk.  It took me forever to get it down.
It has taken me many many years to enjoy pico de gallo or salsa.  I have NEVER eaten a tomato sandwich because of this and DO NOT eat tomatoes in my salad.  GROSS!

Fall

Fall is my favorite season of the year!
  • I love the warm days and cool evenings just perfect for blue jeans and sweatshirts.
  • I love the smell of campfires and the taste of s'mores.
  • The earth is at it's most beautiful.  The NC mountains are breathtaking!
  • Friday Nights under the lights of the football stadium are the best way to start a weekend.
  • Sunday afternoons cheering on the Dallas Cowboys are priceless!
  • Halloween is one of my favorite holidays probably because my mom and I share a birthday the day before.  We were almost witches!
  • My wedding anniversary is also in October.
  • An extra hour of sleep in October is an added bonus.
Camping in the Fall by the fire.

Walking Dead
I'm often a little behind on the newest hit tv shows and always wonder what the hype is all about.  I remember finally watching Grey's Anatomy when I had a surgery and was bored to tears.  I watched like the first 2 seasons while out on leave and have been hooked ever since.  The eye candy on the show was and is awesome!

The same thing happened with Survivor.  I didn't watch (and still haven't) season 1 or 2 of survivor, but was hooked when I tuned in to season 3.  You have to know that season... the one with Colby Donaldson - in Africa.  Talk about eye candy and a real gentleman!
The newest show I am hooked on is Walking Dead.  I seriously thought people were NUTS for watching a Zombie tv show.  But again, boredom over Christmas sent me to Netflix to see what it was all about.  Again I am hooked.  I think I must have an addictive personality - when it comes to tv and chocolate!  Sorry, I have no eye candy to share for this show.  :)

Blog Mess & Currently

If this is your first time visiting my blog, it does not generally look like this!

Two days ago I opened my webpage to find it was totally messed up with Photobucket images all over.   My wonderful blog designer Kenna checked into it and Photobucket said they were working on it.    It was gone yesterday & back again today!  UGGGH!

I can't believe it is March already!  But I was happy to see the calendar turn.   This month holds...
my youngest turns 12 (mixed emotions)
Easter Break begins in a few short weeks

Not to mention, it is time for Currently again.  Thanks to Farley over at Oh Boy Fourth Grade for this monthly linky.

Listening:  to Bruno Mars CD  - love the mix of songs he has on his CDs.  Our first grades went to a play yesterday for the Little Mermaid.  The play ended with the Count on Me song.  It is going to be perfect for my son's Graduation CD.  "You can count on me like 1,2,3.  I'll be there.  And I know when I need it, I can count on you like 4,3,2.  You'll be there.  Cause that's what friends supposed to do.  OH yeah!"   Wouldn't that make a great classroom song too - for building community!!

Loving:  My wonderful hubby was sick last week (again!) but he got up out of bed long enough to get 4 tickets to see Kenny Chesney in May!   We did not go last year when he toured with Tim McGraw, even though I love them both!  I just couldn't justify spending $150 or more on 1 ticket when we are raising 3 kids.  2 with cars, and 1 in college.  I just couldn't do it!

Thinking:  Teenagers should come with instruction manuals!!  Can I get an AMEN?  I have 3 wonderful children, I really do!!  God has blessed me beyond measure.  There is just something about those teenage years that is meant to drive parents crazy.  I am sure my worries are minor compared to what they could be, but if I could turn back time I would so turn back to when my kiddos were 2, 8, and 10.  AND then I would hit the FREEZE button.  I miss having little ones in the house.  They are 11, 17, and 19 now!

Wanting:  to learn to relax.  My mom gave me a mani/pedi gift certificate for Christmas.  Have I used it?  NO!    I love to pedis, but to sit for a mani and a pedi - that is just too long.  Tried it once - kept counting the minutes til she was done with the mani!

For Valentine's Day, my sweet hubby, got me a mani/pedi & a 1 hour massage!!!   It was very sweet of him.  He wants me to relax.  But doesn't he remember the one & only time I had an hour massage with him at this Swanky place?  He almost fell asleep and I kept worrying about what fat part she was massaging now and when would she be done.   I know I am a rare bird, but I just can't do it.  I can't sit still that long without a melatonin or something to knock me out!

Needing:  to clean my house today!  But wait a minute, I am supposed to learn to relax.  Should I practice now?   NO.  With all 3 children & hubby home soon, I think I will make a list and get this house clean like nobody's business.  I hate clutter & it has taken over.

Like:  Third Day - I love the lead singer's voice and almost all of their songs.  When I need to feel the emotions I am going through without pushing them under and hiding them behind all the 'stuff' I need to do, I will play their songs.
Love:  Teaching - I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life.  I can't imagine a more rewarding job.  I know I have lots I could complain about, or that could be fixed, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Hate:  Tattling - "Mrs. Wilson, Johhny called me a knucklehead!  Well, Lucy, are you a knucklehead?  No.  Then, why do you care what Johnny says? "

Landforms & Ginormous Give Away

We just wrapped up our unit on landforms with a very hands-on activity.
Last year's landform project was quite time consuming and difficult to complete without several volunteers.  So, this year we changed it up a bit.
First, students painted land and water on a sturdy paper plate.   They dried quickly.

Meanwhile, at home, my hubby made a salt dough recipe.

YOU WILL NEED:
A cup salt
2 cups of flour
¾ cup of water

The next day, students used the salt dough to create a few landforms of their choice after review.

Here is a valley in the making!
These had to dry over the weekend before painting.
Don't you just love the volcano!
Ocean, river, pond, valley, volcano, 2 mountains.
Ta-da!  Done!  My kiddos loved this & were quite as a mouse (even my most rowdy one) while painting them.
