In Everything Give Thanks

I have so many things to be thankful for.  I am blessed beyond measure!  I am linking up with Lyndsey @ A Year of Many Firsts for her Stuffed with Thankful Thoughts Linky Party.

1.  God is all around us if we will just acknowledge Him.  He  is my strength.
2.  Family is everything.
This handsome man has loved me for 29 years and our love only gets stronger.
He makes me laugh and I feel at home in his arms.

Kait, Tanner, and Zach - My 3 beautiful children.  Each unique in their own ways.
My sister, dad, me, mom, and brother!
My mom and dad are my biggest supporters.

3.  The Baptism of my youngest child by my husband.
September 23rd - our youngest was baptized.
4.  My pets who give unconditional love.
This is our Rescue dog, Cooper.  He is such a mess, but so loveable.  He has chewed up 1000s of dollars of stuff around our house, including our back deck and the mudflaps on my car!
This is our baby, Lexi.  She is our lap dog and very protective.
5.  Friends
This is my Bunco group which includes my best friend since 3rd grade!
6.  My job and fellow first grade teachers.  (Their husbands aren't too bad, either!)

7.  The moments my husband and I have spent together riding this year!  And for our safety while riding.
8.  The blogging community and Pinterest.  I have only been blogging a year, but it has totally changed my teaching for the better.

The Wild Christmas Reindeer Vocabulary - FREE!

I just finished a new vocabulary unit for The Wild Christmas Reindeer.  Vocabulary is one of the many activities I do during my "Interactive Read Aloud" block.
This packet will take a total of about 60 minutes to complete.  I generally spend 20 minutes in 3 different sessions to complete the activities.  My students love participating in them because they are fun, fast paced and active.
This packet is free in my TPT store a week.  Please stop by and pick it up.  If you do, please leave feedback.  I would love to know how your kiddos like it.  Just click on the pic below.

Teaching Tip Linky

I am joining Miss Kindergarten for her Teaching Tip linky party.
My grade level just began using Planbook.com.  I have to say it has made sharing our lesson plans much easier!  Go check it out!
  • I was able to complete a customized schedule with class templates for any day of the week.
  • Adjusting your schedule is very easy.
  • Exporting other teacher's lessons is simply too easy!  You just need their email and "key."
  • You can insert Common Core Standards easily.
  • Easily create custom day schedules for half-days, etc.
  • LOVE LOVE the ability to bump a lesson to the next day or extend a one day lesson to 2 days.
  • View lesson plans by day, class, week.  You can also print them any of these ways, also.  I often print out my RTI lesson plans separately to keep at my RTI table.

A few of last week's schedule in planbook.com  (not a printed version).

Part of a daily view in planbook.com.

I am joining Tammy @ 1,2,3 Teach with Me for her Book of the Month Linky Party.

Just a few of my favorite Fall books.

Cute book about a boy who confuses the months of September and October.  All kinds of fall mix ups happen!  Your kids will love it!

Leaf Man (made from a collection of read leaves) is on the move across the country.  He sees many beautiful scenes of Fall.

A Few of the Election related books I shared with my class this year!

The Day the Teacher Lost Her Voice!

Today was the first day in 20 years of teaching, I have had to teach without a voice. At first, I didn’t think it could be done and I thought about getting a sub. But then I got to thinking about how I could make the best of it.   Here’s how I survived the day with a little help from my friends: technology, lip reading and miming.
  •   I relied on a bit of charades and hand motions to get through my reading groups.
  •   I modeled without any words during my word work time. My students completed the  computer word work activity beautifully!
  • For math, I switched things up a bit. I created a powerpoint with the important points  on how to use a number line to add.  I typed up everything I would say during the lesson and recorded my husband’s voice saying it.  I used Garage Band and then inserted it into the powerpoint as media!    Walah!   I didn’t need to speak although I did have to act out what he was saying by pointing to the board and hopping along the number line.  My students recognized my husband’s voice and LOVED it.
  • Lunch was a breeze. Hand motions to sit down & shush worked well.
  • How did I give directions for the day or teach my writing and social studies lessons? With a voki! If you haven’t used one, you must try it. A voki is an animated character who can talk for you. All you do is type what you want it to say. There are TONS of characters and lots of voices with accents. President Obama and Brittany Spears even gave a few directions today.

Currently

I have been missing in blogland.  Common Core, assessments, and report cards are kicking my tail.  Add common cold turned laryngitis and I am totally dragging!
Talking common core.... anyone else out there feel like we are trying to fly a plane while building it?

Let's get on to something more fun.... Farley's Currently for November!
Current photos of Home:
My husband celebrated his birthday on the 26th.  My mom & I celebrated on the 30th!

North Davidson High School entrance onto the field to "Back in Black" by AC/DC.  It gives me chills every time.  They enter through the smoke into the stands and onto the field where hundreds of parents, students, and fans are lined up.  They run through the fans to the end zone.  At the end zone, they get pumped up to a mix of tunes and run through the cheerleader's banner.  They run to our ND, touch it, and run to the sidelines.  We have been told we have one of the best entrances in the state!  I believe it!

 More Football!
Tailgating @ the Wake Forest Game!
Current Photos @ School
We've been measuring.

And celebrating our fundraising efforts with an awesome BMX bike show.

Happy November!
